Vienna, VA - Don Baird met with Jim Abbott and Sandy Woodcock at the Newspaper Association of America Headquarters in Vienna, Virginia. As a result of that meeting, NAA under the NAA Foundation has decided to join forces with ASP as a co-venture partner and work as the direct contact point for the America’s Schools Recycling Program with the 900 city newspapers across the United States. Each city newspaper can now join directly under the NAA Foundation, supporting their own city newspapers, local schools and the NAA Foundation at the same time, while helping to protect our nation’s environment.

In addition to the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press, 4 news organizations joined the program under the NAA partnership. These include: The Del Ray Sun of Alexandria, VA, the Argus Observer of Ontario, OR, the Post Register of Idaho Falls, ID, and the Advocate Manager of Danville, KY. The America’s Schools Program and the Newspaper Association of America welcome these new media partners.

More than 20 chambers of commerce from across the country have joined the America’s Schools Recycling Program over the past month. They have committed to supporting their local schools and helping to preserve the environment by leveraging their membership base and influence in their local community. Chambers that have joined recently include: Buena Park, Mendocino Coast, Simi Valley, Coalinga Area, San Diego North, Vallejo, Louisville Area, Franklin County, Lincolnton-Lincoln County, Smithville, Wellington Area/CVB, Ferndale, Bayfield, West Metro, Greater Goldendale, Lodi, Broken Bow, Death Valley, Greater Chambersburg, El Dorado Hills, Castro Valley, Rosemead, Foster City, Mercer Regional, Delta County Commerce Center, El Dorado Springs Area, Flatonia, Irwindale, Camarillo, Yorktown Western Days Association, Yorktown Texas, Buhl, Sinton, and Oakhurst Area.

Reno, NV - Under the ASP-Nevada Schools Recycling Program a co-venture partnership making the Reno Gazette Journal (RGJ) a 50% financial recipient of recycling dollars raised in Northern Nevada has been approved by Nevada State Bank (NSB). All NSB’s Northern Nevada retail locations will act as official recycling drop-off locations for the general public to recycle both used inkjet/toner printer cartridges and cell-phones to financially support educational programs in Northern Nevada. NSB has also committed to produce both radio and television :30 sec’ Public Service Announcement to help drive consumer awareness. The RGJ has committed to both ¼ and ½ page weekly advertisement to help support Nevada State Bank’s commitment to both our schools and the RGJ.

NFWL, led by its President, Robin Read, are taking the ASP Recycling Program to government offices throughout the country. Funds generated will benefit local government programs, and the local schools as well as the National Foundation For Women Legislators. Over the past year, the America's Schools Recycling Program has been adopted by several government agencies including the Michigan Department of Human Services, Michigan Department of Transportation, California Department of Transportation and the Nevada Court System. New York, NY - Major League Soccer (MLS) has adopted the Recycling program at the corporate level. After a face-to-face meeting with Don Baird in Manhattan they have begun to explored the potential of a co-venture partnership that would link the MLS teams directly to the local recycling efforts across the United States. With the thousands of soccer players at schools and the various professional and amateur soccer teams across the country, MLS can have a significant influence on the community.

Los Angeles, CA - NCLR actively works with over 300 Hispanic organizations, representing 41 million Hispanics and hundreds of major corporations nationwide. ASP is currently working with NCLR to hopefully develop a strategic co-venture partner through the ASP National Schools recycling Program that would help to financially support NCLR’s 300 charter schools. ASP plans to develop Spanish PSA’s using key Hispanic celebrity spokespersons to introduce the ASP National Schools Program to the nations Hispanic community.

It was a vision of musical stardom as a Detroit teen that inspired Mary Wilson to start one of the most successful female singing groups in recording history – The Supremes. Since then, Mary Wilson has gone on to be a part of dozens of hit records, has written a best-selling autobiography, performed on stage and screen, lectured and toured the world, and continues to be looked up to as a singer who set the standard for females in the recording industry.

Las Vegas, NV - Richard Steele was elected into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 2000. During his career as a referee, Richard has had the pleasure of refereeing such epic battles as Thomas Hearns vs. Sugar Ray Leonard, Julio Caesar Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor, Alexis Arguello vs. Aaron Pryor and the greatest 3 rounds of boxing Marvelous Marvin Hagler vs.Thomas Hearns.
Although these are great honors, one of his greatest achievements is his daily influence on the troubled youth of Henderson and Las Vegas, Nevada through his foundation – Richard Steele Boxing Club. It is through this program where he says he can help kids stay off the streets by teaching them boxing and martial arts as well as provide life skills they can leverage for their future. We are very proud to have Richard Steele join the America’s Schools Team on the America’s Schools Sports and Entertainment Advisory Board.
